Weather Forecast from the Lake District National Park Weatherline with Fell Conditions (Winter only) now available onlineThe absence of a forecast from both the Weather line and MWIS recently prompted me to go to the horse's mouth. For forecasts for all the mountain areas in the UK go to the Met Office Mountain area forecasts.
Important notice - we've left Cumbria House and moved to Portinscale. All being well, the daily weather report will be back tomorrow evening (20th March), assuming weather conditions allow me to get the weather station on the roof! There's been a rather lengthier delay than I was hoping as the battery had gone flat but a new one should arrive tomorrow.
The resurrected report will be at a new dedicated site www.lakedistrict-weather.co.uk and also www.pacethepeaks.co.uk/weather.html

Summary of last 24 hours to 7 pm Monday 19th March 2007
The weather changed on Saturday evening with the wind veering to the North and bringing distinctly colder conditions, Sunday morning dawning with a cover of snow on the fells down to a few hundred feet. More snow at high level, and in the valley as well, the latter melting almost immediately on the warmer ground. A mixture of hail, sleet and snow interspersed by occasional brighter and even sunny spells was the order of the day, the most extensive snow cover of the "winter" greeting us this morning (Monday). [The depth at 3000 feet on Helvellyn this afternoon was 50 cm with drifts to 70 cm.] A chilly day but at least fine, especially at first this morning, Skiddaw and the other fells gleaming white in the sunshine but with a brisk and chilly wind. More fine but cold weather for the next few days with occasional snow showers. (See forecast links above and at bottom of page)
