Cycling - Derwentwater Route

This is a road ride that can be riden either way round. You can start from Keswick and head towards Portinscale or the other direction towards Great Wood. It is an easy and short ride - about 10 miles that should take between 1 and 2 hours.

This is the route as you would find it going in the clockwise direction starting from the Moot Hall in the centre of Keswick.

1. Go down lake road, towards George Fishers. Carry on when you get to the roundabout and head along Borrowdale Road.

2. Continue down Borrowdale Road for about 4 miles until you get to Grange where you turn right over two humpback bridges. There are several cafes here where you can stop for an ice-cream, slice of cake and tea or coffee.

3. Ride through Grange and follow the yellow road North back along by the lake and under the Catbells range.

4. When you get to a junction and car park, turn right and right again at the next junction into Portinscale.

5. At the junction in Portinscale turn right and cross over the suspension bridge (DISMOUNT!). Continue down the road and turn right into Keswick when you get to the B5289.

6. Follow this road into Keswick, then cross the pedestrianised area (DISMOUNT!) and head into the town centre.
